[text: Welcome Guide]
Welcome to Hadriel.
Maybe you just got here, or you're opening up your phone for the first time. Either way, we figured a while back that it might be nice to have some kind of guide for folks trying to get their bearings in this world. That's what this file is for.
While it might not look like much, Hadriel is a hell of a town with a lot of happenings that are far from what most people would call 'normal.' We used to be underground, but after an attack by some synthetic beings called the Null, the gods had to move the whole place and everyone in it a few times, ending up where we are now. These Null view emotion as kind of a disease, an infection, and since the gods make folks feel such things just by proximity, the Null decided they'd be better off wiping out their entire race.
It's not an ideal situation for any of us, we know. It's not really something they can control most of the time, or so the gods say.
The good news about it is that the gods also keep this place going, make it relatively hospitable for most of us, using our emotions to power themselves and bring back those they've lost along the way. They'll even work with you if you're looking for something specific. If you want more on that straight from the horse's mouth, you can give them a call through the network. They'll be listed in your contacts by their names: Hope, Fear, Sorrow, Rage, Tranquility, Confusion, and Love. There's one more, but Delight betrayed the others, so don't expect her to pick up the phone.
The short version is that everyone here, save for the gods, was brought in through something called the Door. No, we don't know where it is, nor how to use it to get ourselves home even if we did. If one of you out there reading this happens to figure it out, share it with the class. Some of us have been wanting a way home for years now.
For others, this is home, so don't be surprised if you come across folks who would rather stay here, despite everything. Maybe they're dead back in their world, or maybe they just don't have anything to go back to. The Door brings in all types.
Whether you're here for a little while or here for the long run, there's plenty that needs doing. If you need medical attention or have some training to help out the wounded, we have the Clinic. Want to keep the citizens safe from the monsters the Door drags in every month? The Guard could use you. There's the Fire Brigade, the Speakeasy, Sorrow's orchard. All need extra hands, so if you're looking to keep yourself occupied, there's enough work to go around. And if you don't know how to do anything for any of those organizations, we've got folks who are willing to help with that, too.
You might've been ready to go home the second you got here, but until then, we'll help you get settled. All you need to do is ask.
